• Hamble

With the official title of ‘Hamble-le-rice’, the village of Hamble is located in the south east of Southampton and it’s likely that you’ll recognise the name from its historical role as an aircraft training centre during World War Two.

In more modern times, the south airfield has long since disappeared whereas the north airfield has been partially redeveloped as residential housing. The remainder is now privately owned and has unfortunately been neglected for many years. Despite this, the village retains an interest in the aviation industry with the Hamble Aerostructures factory a large employer in the local area.

Located on the banks of the River Hamble from which the village derives its name, Hamble sits at the tip of the Hamble Peninsula and is flanked by Netley, Butlocks Heath, Southampton Water and Bursledon. Although its official name is now Hamble-le-rice, many local residents still refer to the suburb as simply Hamble.

If you enjoy sailing or boating of any kind, Hamble is the place for you. Its marinas are often packed with boats during the summer months and the variety of estuaries in the local area are home to a huge range of wildlife, making for exciting and interesting country walks.

Largely residential, Hamble has grown in popularity among working professionals and commuters given its closeness to Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville and Fareham.

Property here is mostly comprises detached, semi-detached and terraced homes, as well as town houses, flats, maisonettes and new-build apartments. You can expect to pay around £180,000 for a good, well-sized three or four-bedroom terraced house, amply highlighting that homes in Hamble are towards the much more affordable end of the market.

The village is served by Hamble Railway Station, which provides services to both Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour, with services running regularly throughout the day. It is also linked by ferry to Warsash, and has bus services from pre-dawn to late night to and from Southampton and Eastleigh

There is easy access to Portsmouth and the other major surrounding areas, with road, bus and rail links all strong.
